Do you know how it feels
To be pulled down by faceless monsters
Into a dark endless tunnel
Not knowing who they are,
where are they taking you.
To be pulled down by faceless monsters
Into a dark endless tunnel
Not knowing who they are,
where are they taking you.
Do you know how it feels
To walk around without a body
No hands, no legs, no head
Nothing but a heart, tied to a Boulder
How it feels to carry your heart all throughout and have nothing
Just the heart and that heavy Boulder
To walk around without a body
No hands, no legs, no head
Nothing but a heart, tied to a Boulder
Just the heart and that heavy Boulder
Do you know how it feels
To not know which path should you walk
Should you cry or should you laugh
Carrying a mask for so long that you forget what you are
But when you do realise who are you
You are so broken that you just don't know now what to do.
To not know which path should you walk
Should you cry or should you laugh
Carrying a mask for so long that you forget what you are
But when you do realise who are you
You are so broken that you just don't know now what to do.
Darwin said the fittest will survive.
Do you know how it feels
to know that may be you are not the fittest
May be you won't survive
How it feels to be lost in the jungle of your own thoughts
Which are sometimes dark and sometimes run wild.
But do you know
Darwin wasn't right
You don't have to be the fittest to survive
You have to acknowledge that you are fragile
You don't have to be the fittest to survive
You have to acknowledge that you are fragile
You have to reach out for that one helping hand
you don't have to be strong for the world outside
If you can't stand it any more you have to give yourself the liberty to break
but then slowly pick up the pieces of your shattered soul and walk ahead.
No it's not the fittest who survive
it's the ones who give it a fight
it's the ones who are not afraid to cry,
it's true.. it takes vulnerability and be willing to show it.
ReplyDeleteya Natasa, but even showing that your vulnerable takes a lot of courage.
DeleteIt is pure luck, just as when you buy a dozen eggs which one will be cracked!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it's lock but accepting that you don't have to be strong and giving yourself the freedom to break down helps a lot to recollect your self.
Deletei like how a devastated soul gathers grains of strength and stands up...so many stories of suppressed sigh are hidden here...powerful write....
ReplyDeleteThanks Sumana :) and it's a great achievement to accept that you are broken but the picking up your self and recollecting those broken pieces :)
DeleteI appreciate the need to acknowledge that we are fragile. I think that is what seperates us from apex predators. I mean seriously, are we just another animal - ran by our senses? You can not give up on life, or it will def give up on you. Very nice progression in this.
ReplyDeleteThank you X :) :)
DeleteSo true that oftentimes the ones who survive ARE those who give it a fight, who keep trying despite obstacles, who have the faith in themselves that they can and will make it in the end!
ReplyDelete(Great to see you again!)
yes having faith in yourself is something which helps you sail through the toughest times. thanks Mary :) even I am glad to be back. missed poets united :) :)
DeleteThis poem really speaks to me. Having made my own painful journey, and having supported others in making theirs, those who may appear most fragile are actually very strong - to have survived and, as you say, decided to give living another chance. I like the authentic voice you use in this poem.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherry :) good to know that you have made it through and helped others too. Not everyone can do that. Thanks for the encouragement :)
DeleteBravo! Take Darwin to task! I love this particularly:
ReplyDelete"how it feels to be lost in the jungle of your own thoughts
Which are sometimes dark and sometimes run wild."
Oh, yes, I know this and the boulder and all. After decades pass in this fashion, I learned that darkness can be restful and that wildness can be delightful. Thank you for this poem.
Welcome Susan :) and your comment is so so encouraging thanks a lot for taking the time to stop by and read :)
DeleteI don't know how it feels but you describe the state of mind very well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kerry, I am glad that you don't know how it feels. And I wish you never go through this dreadful feeling. Thank you so much for stopping by and appreciating :)
DeleteNo it's not the fittest who survive
ReplyDeleteit's the ones who give it a fight
I love the optimism in these lines.. indeed the ones who fight and struggle also have a chance at survival.
Beautifully executed.
Lots of love,
Sanaa
Thank you so much sanaa :)
DeleteA wonderfully written argument...
ReplyDeleteZQ
Thanks a lot RK Garon :)
DeleteI am glad the poem turned hopeful, with wise advice at the end (However I don't think Darwin meant 'fittest' in the sense of 'strongest' but rather 'those best fitted' for survival. The ability to deal with one's fragility could well be part of that!)
ReplyDeleteI agree Rosemary may Darwin was a genius and I agree he probably did mean those who are fit to survive. However, I just took bit of creative liberty with Darwin's theory ;) Thanks for your wonderful comment.
DeleteI do know how it feels and I am so smitten with your ending...I couldn't agree more....give it all you have, give it a fight, cry, pick up the pieces and take one step forward.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna, I am happy that you could relate :) Stay strong and give it all you have Cheers :)
DeleteSuch an inspiring read especially no one is exempted to fight a certain battle. All of us has one, at least.
ReplyDeleteThanks Totomai for the encouraging words :) True we all are fighting a battle of our own, the point is never to give up
DeleteVery moving and well written.
ReplyDeletethank you :)
